This 1976 FJ40 was purchased by a retired car enthusiast who has restored several vintage vehicles. He purchased her from a young enlisted man in Florida. It's reported to have come from Texas. The project was a frame with the engine, transmission transfer case and suspension installed. The builder spent 18 months finishing the FJ40.
The frame was sand blasted and coated in POR 15. The axles were rebuilt with longfield axles in back and longfield birfields in front. The Old Man Emu suspension including front and rear leaf springs and Bilstein shocks front and rear provides a 2.5 inch lift. The front axle has Mile Marker locking hubs.
The engine is 5.3 L Vortec provided by BD Turnkey Engines and produces 330hp at 5500 RPM's on the Dyno sheet. The engine is a 2005 Chevy Tahoe 5.3 LM 7 ) with a 4L60 e tune and stand alone wiring harness.
The drivetrain includes a rebuilt 4L60-E automatic transmission and rebuilt FJ60 series split case transfer case with advance adapters 4L60E to 60 series adapter. Custom rear drive shaft and modified front drive shaft. New American shifter, Twin stick transfer case with billet aluminum transfer case shifters. The truck is also equip't with an ARB differential and transmission vent relocation system
Brakes consist of rebuilt stock Toyota front disc brakes and the rear has been been converted to disc brakes as well. The stopping power is excellent.
Steering consists of the Advanced adapters power steering conversion kit, Saginaw power steering pump, cross member support and frame fork welded beef up plates.
The stock 16 gallon fuel take was removed from under the passenger seat in favor of a new Dorman 20 gallon fuel tank mounted in the rear. Fuel filler door was relocated to the rear passenger side.
Additional enhancements include a new Walbro 340 fuel pump, fuel lines and brake lines, Specter off road FJ40 wiring kit, three row aluminum radiator with two speed electric fan and coolant overflow reservoir, new 3 inch exhaust.
You will stay cool and comfortable or warm and cozy in the cabin with the new Vintage Air Generation IV A/C and heat system. Interior has new front and rear seat upholstery, Pioneer am/fm cassette with speakers. New aftermarket FJ40 dash pad, new rubber floor covering for easy clean up, new rubber seals for doors and windows. The headliner was removed and overhead surface painted black. The steering wheel was sourced from a later Toyota model.
The truck received new paint using PPG base coat clear coat in Dune Beige.
Putting this truck back together and doing the paint and body work took 18 months. Any rust was cut out and replaced with metal and the rear ambulance door sill was replaced. The undercarriage has been completely cleaned, sprayed with Rhino liner and looks as good as the top side does.
Everything works as it should. All controls, lights, wipers, washers, horn, radio, A/C, heat function as they should.
