Built in Jan of 1983, this South American spec 1983 FJ40 is a rust free example. She was refurbished in Colombia and imported to the US in November 2020. The seller states that the body was removed from the frame and refinished in green with a white roof, the frame was powder-coated black, and the seats were reupholstered with gray vinyl.  The truck is powered by a 4.2-liter straight-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case, and features include 15” steel wheels, locking front hubs, ambulance-style rear doors, and inward-facing rear seats. An oil change was performed by the current owner in 2022. This FJ40 is now offered with a clean Montana title in the seller’s name.

The seller states that during the refurbishment the body was removed from the frame, and it was subsequently repainted in its present shade of green with a white roof and grille surround. The frame was powder-coated in black, and additional features include silver painted bumpers and mirrors as well as ambulance-style rear doors. Close-up photographs of the exterior are provided in the gallery. Unfortunately, the paint on the passenger side fender was damaged recently when a self in the garage fell on it.

White-painted 15” steel wheels wear new BFG AT tires, and a spare is mounted on the swing-out rear carrier. The truck is equipped with AVM manually locking front hubs.

The instrument cluster includes a 160-km/h speedometer, readouts for oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage, and an inoperable coolant-temperature gauge. Approximately 222k kilometers (~138k miles) are shown on the six-digit odometer.

The rear cargo area is equipped with fold-down inward-facing gray vinyl benches along with a black vinyl floor mat.

The carbureted 4.2-liter 2F inline-six was factory rated at 135 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. Recent service includes the addition of front disc brakes, lube, oil and filter and all other fluids changed in April 2022.

The truck includes a tool kit and one set of keys. Rear door key reported to be missing. 

 

It's important to note and understand that Toyota was not required to meet US EPA and Safety Standards for vehicles bound for other markets like South America. Thus there is no roll bar, dash pad, rear seat belts, emission requirements to meet, etc.
