1976 FJ55 - Work in Progress

I owned this FJ55 in 2002/2003 and now I have her back again. I'm in the process of going thru the truck to repair/replace/restore items that need attention. I anticipate she will be ready for adventure by the fall of this year - 2021

This California 1976 FJ55 Land Cruiser has front disk brakes, 4 speed transmission, reliable 2F rebuilt engine and power steering. She is currently showing 126K on odometer. The truck was restored by a long time friend in Colorado and has been garaged and sparingly driven over the last couple decades. The following description outlines much of the work. Many new parts were used during the restoration which are no longer new but the truck has been driven less then 20K miles since most of this work occurred.

The engine and clutch were rebuilt at 110K miles, new brake linings, new brake and clutch master cylinder, new water pump, new heater hoses, new Toyota heater control valve, reman. AIR pump, new temp. gauge sender. Later model gear reduction starter, muffler. Since I have had the truck back we have drained the fuel tank, installed a new fuel pump, rebuilt the carb, adjusted the valves and replaced the spark plugs. In August she will be headed to the body shop for a little cosmetic work.

The truck now rides on Firestone Winterforce P235/75 R15 tires on chrome FJ60 rims with center caps, newer shocks, newer 2" extended shackles and bushings, correction shims added to front axle, newer u-bolts on front axle. New Toyota drag link, tie rod ends, rebuilt center arm, front end aligned

I had the Interior completely repainted in 2003 and it still looks very good. She will be getting a new headliner. Inside you will find stock bench seats - reupholstered in black vinyl. All door panels uncut and original. Carpeted cargo area panels - tasteful and subtle. Original vinyl floor mat in passenger areas and back. All window felts replaced, newer door seals. I am working on getting her a new electric rear window gear - glass and gate worked well. New speedometer cable. All defroster hoses replaced. New Toyota windshield gasket, and windshield and all glass in excellent condition. All gauges and electrical devices work as designed. All seatbelts (shoulder belts in front) intact.

All u-joints are tight. No leaks, save an occasional drip from the rear main seal. Clutch is smooth, transfer case is quiet and both transmission and transfer case shift well.

Non-stock additions include Toyota Mini-truck power steering - works very well. Jensen shaft-style AM/FM/Cassette in stock location - dash not cut. Small Alpine stereo amp under dashboard. Custom receiver hitch built into face of rear bumper + wiring and safety chain mount. Electric fuel pump with lighted dash switch, wired to accessory circuit. Rear bumper is a front FJ55 bumper mounted on the rear of the truck - looks stock, but is stronger than OEM. Custom front inner fender liners and rear mud flaps. Includes tool kit, jack, jack rods, crank and Owners manual.
