Compare 1977 vs. 1978 FJ40

Many of you took note of the Red 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 on Bring-A-Trailer that sold for $110,000 on 4/27/25. I received a number of texts and emails about it. If you missed it, you can find here HERE.

Now take a look a THIS 1978 FJ40 and compare. The 1977 on BaT has power steering added while this 1978 below is stock with no power steering. The 1977 on BaT has a Waen winch, a shovel and a high lift jack mounted up front. There are other minor variations but on balance these two FJ40's are very comparable, The biggest difference by far is PRICE! This 1978 FJ40 is less than $65K


The 1978 FJ40 has been completely stripped down, rebuilt, and meticulously restored with many new parts in 2022. She has only 57,600 miles.

The engine was rebuilt, as well as the transmission/transfer case, and the front and rear axles were rebuilt with all new bearings and seals. She has a new upgraded wiring harness and fuse block. Includes a complete new fuel system and pumps, fuel lines, and hoses. Complete new hydraulic brake system, radiator, water pump, and all belts and hoses. All parts were cleaned, sandblasted, inspected, and painted before assembly.

New front fenders. New front bumper and frame braces. New rear bumper with frame angle braces. New rear (heavy gauge tub) sheet metal. New stainless steel roof frame. All new interior upholstery.

 

All new lights and signals. New stainless steel exhaust system and muffler. New leaf springs, bushings, and shocks. The restoration process has been documented in many photos.
