Transcending the Boundaries of Time

Elusive US spec 1981 FJ40 with Factory Power Steering

I think of this stunning 1981 Cygnus White FJ40 as a survivor with a make over. While she has been repainted in her original color and had no less than $20K invested in her over the past seven years, there has been no frame off restoration. She retains her original 4.2L 2F inline 6 cylinder engine and 4-speed transmission with 3.70 gears and factory emissions. She's managed to escape the typical onslaught of use and abuse. Where others have failed, she has somehow prevailed.

At 81,900 miles, she's been driven an average of 2000 miles a year since new and her owners have protected what the manufacturer designed and built so many years ago. This is a rare occurrence, especially when it comes to rugged utilitarian vehicles that were meant for work!

When I found this FJ40 in 2013, she had been in storage for 5 years and owned by the same family since 2005. The truck originally came from AZ and resides in Northern Idaho today.

This truck is just a pleasure to drive and recently and reliable having made some long journeys without issue. The original 2F engine has very good power and the truck runs and handles among the best of them! She’s close to stock with a few exceptions like the FJ60 wheels, signal light guards and newer upholstery in front. The jump seats retain their original upholstery, the original front mat, seat surrounds, original radio, original toolkit and owners manual are all there.
