1969 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser Build Record – Started 2013

This vehicle started life as a 1969 FJ40 from AZ. The steel tub was intact with no rust-through and the frame was solid and easily powder coated. A five-year body-off restoration/modification began in 2013 and was 95% completed by 2018. Several details continued to be made including most recently a third brake light and upgraded engine wiring. Note the extensive use of premium hardware and fasteners throughout the build. There were no compromises. The vehicle has been modernized with updated running gear and components, but not to the point where its heritage has been lost. Many original hard to find items have been retained including metal emblems, key slot covers, and the rebuilt, original Warn winch. The FJ40 signifies the history of Toyota’s first venture into off-roading and is steadily increasing in desirability and value.

Stripped everything off frame, sand blasted frame and powder coated.

Installed rebuilt 1987 Chevy 350 w/ TBI, aluminum heads, roller cam, & Edelbrock intake manifold.

Install all new Painless wiring harness throughout.

Install ARB rear air lockers w/ compressor.

Install the new Walker Aluminum radiator w/ all new hoses.

Install rebuilt 700R4 Transmission w/ overdrive & Lokar shifter, on the floor.

Install rebuilt 9” Ford rear end w 4.11 gears & new driveshaft.

Install new 4-wheel disc brakes, Saginaw power steering with components and Flaming River steering column and tilt steering wheel.

Install new Flowmaster dual exhausts.

Install new 2 1/2?” Skyjacker “soft Ride” Siuspension lift 2/ Fox shocks, and new leaf springs.

Install a custom 23-gallon gas tank along with all new fuel lines.

Add 16” Mickey Thompson chrome wheels w/ B.F. Goodrich 33” All Terrain tires.

Disassemble the body completely, sandblast and repair all rusted areas with steel plate. Prep, prime and have painted and reassembled on frame with all new poly mounts.

Have installed new front and rear glass, all new weather stripping on all doors and windows, new wiper motor, arms, and blades.

Reinstall original side mirrors to vehicle.

Build and install new custom rear tailgate w/ built in lockable storage compartment.

Build, powder coat, paint, and install custom rear bumper/taillights, luggage rack, tow hooks, receiver hitch w/lights wired, swing away spare tire carrier, and telescoping work light on rear of vehicle.

Build, powder coat, paint, and install custom front bumper with KC driving and fog lights, tow hooks, and push bar.

Install all new headlights, parking lights, turn signals, and taillights on vehicle.

Install period correct Warn 8,000 lbs. Winch with new 65’ steel cable on front bumper.

Painted and installed period correct roof with new headliner and inside lighting.

Powder coat inside of vehicle and paint to match outside.

Build, powder coat, paint and install new roll bar inside cab.

Install Audi S6 Nappa Leather Diamond Stitch Electric Heated Seats with matching period correct bench seats, center console armrest, visors, and retractable seat belts.

Install custom lockable storage compartment on top of dash and build and install custom dashboard w/ all new Stewart Warner gauges and rocker switches for all lights, lockers, AC Adapter, compressor (onboard air), heat & AC, etc.

Install Vintage Air, AC & heat w/ vents and controls mounted in dash.

Have 3 layers of soundproof insulation and carpet installed on the inside floor.

Install original I.D plate to firewall of vehicle and reattach all vehicle appropriate emblems to vehicle.
